The New York City Housing Authority implemented a Design Build program to upgrade waste and recycling facilities at seven developments across the city, including Jackson Houses, East 180th Street–Monterey Avenue, 303 Vernon Avenue, Marcy Houses, LaGuardia Houses, Webster Houses, and Morris II Houses. The project improved sanitation infrastructure and supported more efficient waste management for NYCHA staff and residents.
Johnson & Asberry led all community engagement and education efforts throughout the initiative. Our team facilitated coordination between property management, tenant association leadership, and the design-build team to ensure residents were informed, involved, and heard. We organized stakeholder meetings, hosted resident workshops, and distributed multilingual outreach materials to promote awareness and gather feedback. Input from residents was documented and shared with the project team to help inform the final design.
We maintained regular communication by meeting biweekly with the tenant association presidents and property management teams at each development. J&A also supported Section 3 coordination by assisting with job recruitment and outreach to connect local residents to employment opportunities related to the project.
